There Never Is A Now

There never is a now.

The nearest past is then;

The nearest future yet to be is when;

And as the distance narrows

Then comes closer;

When comes nigh;

But only movement ever lets them meet

To make a now.

Which is why God said, “I am!”

Meaning you and I are not

And all the things around us

When we touch and taste and hear and see

And feel and fall in love

Are yet to be.

That in this life

All we ever really know is motion.
