Now Arise And Set Forth

Now arise and set forth

Out of the crabbed cloak in nettles.

Set foot to roadway

And through the cobbled town.

Blink away sleep

And thump the stony metal with your staff.

Go now while the dust

Is laid by the dew; while hearths are cold;

Before the cock

Stirs stiffly on his perch.

Settle your stride

Against the earth’s pitch and the sky’s roll.

Know now what will be

Next over the coming hill.

While the town sleeps

Start this day’s pilgrimage

In the morning mirage

Toward tonight’s temple and tomorrow’s gods.
